“I am off to the launch site at the end of the week, to the tall towers and runways that will lead ultimately, two years hence, to our destination — Saturn lunar space. That I am to be part of that mission still strikes me as remarkable. Not bad for a kid who left school without a diploma of any kind.”

The voyage described in these letters is very much a personal odyssey, a fictional journey from the Earth to the outer reaches of the solar system. I knew from an early age that the only way I would ever travel in space was through my imagination, hence this collection of interrelated short stories.

The stories are written from the viewpoint of an ordinary man undertaking an extraordinary journey, and are hopefully a realistic depiction of the nature of human spaceflight.

Some years ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet the real-life astronaut Richard Garriott. My yardstick in writing these short stories has always been the hope that he would find them both entertaining and true to life.

Feedback on the stories is welcome via my website or directly to me at markdestewart@btinternet.com
